Liberia Commemorates World Pharmacists Day

Liberia, through the Ministry of Health in collaboration with the Liberia Pharmacy Board, commemorated World Pharmacists Day on September 25 under the theme, “Pharmacists: Meeting Global Health Needs.”

The one-day event served as a platform to recognize and honor the essential role pharmacists play in Liberia’s healthcare delivery system.

The celebration began with a parade, starting from the Ellen Johnson Sirleaf Ministerial Complex in Congo Town and culminating at the Ministry of Health, followed by an indoor program.

The event brought together pharmacists from across Liberia, uniting in their shared commitment to advancing healthcare in the country.

Serving as the keynote speaker was Senate Co-chair on the Health Committee, Senator Thomas Yaya Nimely, of Grand Gedeh County.

Senator Nimely called on pharmacists to remain vigilant and proactive in promoting a healthy population across Liberia.

The Grand Gedeh County Senator emphasized his readiness to collaborate with the Ministry of Health and the Pharmacy Board to ensure a robust and resilient healthcare system across the country.

For her part, Assistant Minister of Preventative Services, Dr. Cuallau Jabbeh Howe, acknowledged the continuous contributions of pharmacists in strengthening the nation’s healthcare system.

Dr. Howe praised the dedication of pharmacists across the country and urged them to continuously collaborate in addressing the evolving health needs of Liberia.

“On behalf of the Minister of Health, I want to acknowledge the role of the pharmacists in the healthcare system. Pharmacists play a very crucial role in strengthening our healthcare system, and the importance of their role cannot be overemphasized. You all have a vital role to play in solving all of the health issues within our country, and I want to encourage you to continue doing your best to promote better health outcomes in Liberia,” Dr. Howe emphasized.

World Pharmacists Day, celebrated globally on September 25th, highlights the critical contributions of pharmacists in improving health outcomes, ensuring the safe use of medications, and providing essential health services.
