Acting UL Pres. Conteh Announces Strategic Appointments to Strengthen Research

The Acting President of the University of Liberia (UL), Prof. Dr. Al-Hassan Conteh, has announced a series of appointments across key academic, research, and policy units at the state-run institution.

The appointments, made based on recommendations from relevant university authorities, aim to bolster the university’s capacity in teaching, research, and administrative functions.

The appointees include J. Lawrence Kollie as Instructor in the Management Department; Jacob L.W. Padmore as Teaching Assistant at the Institute of Population Studies; Albert O. Harris as Assistant Professor at the Institute of Population Studies; Kebeh N.Y. Toe as Research Assistant in the Graduate Program; Genesis B. Kollie as Assistant Professor in the Economics Department; Edna Johnny as Associate Professor in the Economics Department; Abraham S. Fofana as Assistant Professor in the Political Science Department; Nathaniel N. Senkpeni Jr. as Record Officer in the Graduate Program; Darkie F. Mulbah as Chairman and Instructor in the Economics Department; Bernard N.T. Bropleh as Chairman of the Accounting Department; Jethro S. Tamba as Chairman and Assistant Professor in the Geography Department; Othello O. Mason as Academic Coordinator and Instructor; Aldophus S. Wede as Staff Attorney in the Legal Department; Edwina B.R. Gbargaye as Dean and Assistant Professor in the Department of Public Administration; Mamadou L. Bah as Director of the IBB Graduate School; Fong Gami Zwagele as Deputy Executive Director at the Institute of Research and Policy Studies; Nathaniel E. Yarmie as Laboratory Demonstrator at the David A. Stratz-Sinje Technical and Vocational College; S. Ephraim T. Nyumah as Teaching Assistant in the Economics Department; Sonsala C. Parson as Teaching Assistant in the Public Administration Department; and Lorenzo G. Beyan as Instructor in the School of Professional Studies.

In his communication to the appointees, Dr. Conteh underscored the importance of their roles in advancing the university’s mission. “These appointees bring a wealth of knowledge, expertise, and experience to our academic community in their respective fields,” he stated. He further emphasized that the appointments reflect the institution’s dedication to teaching, research, and service excellence. He added, “I am confident they will make valuable contributions to our university’s mission and vision.”

Dr. Conteh called on the newly appointed faculty and staff to demonstrate diligence and commitment in their duties, aligning with UL’s vision to foster quality education and impactful research. He expressed optimism that the appointees would be key assets in strengthening the university’s academic and operational framework.

Notably, all the appointees had previously served within their respective departments before their official appointments, signaling a recognition of their proven capabilities. According to Dr. Conteh, these decisions align with the mandate from UL’s Visitor, President Joseph Nyuma Boakai, to implement reforms to ensure effective teaching and learning.

The appointments take immediate effect.
