Representative Moima Briggs-Mensah of Bong County District #6 has publicly distanced herself from any faction or bloc involved in the ongoing leadership dispute at the House of Representatives.
In a statement issued on January 13, 2025, during the opening of the second regular session of the 55th Legislature, Rep. Briggs-Mensah reaffirmed her neutrality, emphasizing her commitment to the interests of her constituents and the nation.
“As I return to my colleagues for the commencement of the second regular session of the 55th Legislature, I want to make it clear that I am not part of any faction or bloc grouping,” she declared. According to Rep. Briggs-Mensah, her decision to remain neutral was officially announced on November 20, 2024, to foster unity and ensure that her legislative actions focus on Liberia’s and its citizens’ welfare.
The representative’s statement underscored her dedication to serving the people of Salala District and the larger Liberian populace. “My focus will always be on what is best for Liberia, and I urge all my colleagues in the 55th Legislature to do the same,” she stated, adding that her independence in legislative matters reflects her commitment to promoting harmony and effective governance.
Addressing the recent divisions within the House of Representatives, Rep. Briggs-Mensah called on her colleagues to move beyond the impasse and work collaboratively to benefit the Liberian people. “We have witnessed an unfortunate impasse, but the time for division has passed. As we reconvene, I urge all members of the Legislature not to continue fostering unnecessary discord. Let us resolve our differences amicably, through the appropriate legislative proceedings, with respect for the presiding individuals we have chosen to sit under their gavel,” she emphasized.
The representative also highlighted the need for lawmakers to refocus their energy on governance and fulfilling the promises made during their campaigns. “It is time for us to focus on the real work of governance and to honor our commitments to the citizens of Liberia,” she asserted, noting that the people’s trust must be restored through diligent and united efforts.
In her statement, Rep. Briggs-Mensah also addressed the ongoing investigation into the Capitol Building fire, urging impartiality and a commitment to uncovering the truth. “While we wait for the facts, I urge the investigators to carry out their work without partiality. We must ensure that the truth prevails, and those responsible, if found, should face the full weight of the law. This is crucial not only for justice but also for maintaining the integrity of our institution,” she remarked.
The representative concluded her remarks with a call for unity and dedication among lawmakers. “May God bless us all and keep us alert, focused, and dedicated to creating a Legislature and leadership that will serve Liberia and its people with integrity, diligence, and respect,” she stated, signaling a hopeful outlook for the work ahead.
