Boakai Unveils Liberia’s First E-Procurement System

President Joseph Nyuma Boakai has launched Liberia’s first Electronic Government Procurement (e-GP) System to enhance transparency, efficiency, and accountability in public procurement. The unveiling occurred Thursday at the EJS Ministerial Complex in Oldest Congo Town.

Describing the system as a transformative step in governance, Boakai emphasized that it eliminates the need for physical interactions in the bidding process, allowing businesses to compete for government contracts online. He asserted that the initiative directly responds to longstanding corruption concerns that have hindered Liberia’s economic progress.

“This platform marks a significant milestone in our fight against corruption. For too long, corruption has drained our national resources and derailed our development agenda,” Boakai stated.

The e-GP System has already been introduced in six major government procuring entities and is expected to expand across public institutions. By fostering competition among private sector businesses, the platform is designed to streamline procurement processes and reduce opportunities for bribery and favoritism. Boakai praised the registration of over 200 businesses that are now actively engaging in procurement tenders through the system.

Reaffirming his administration’s commitment to good governance, Boakai pledged continuous support for the Public Procurement and Concessions Commission (PPCC) and other oversight bodies to ensure the system’s effectiveness. He described the digital shift as crucial to fostering a more competitive and transparent economic environment.

“This development reinforces our ambition to create an enabling climate for businesses to thrive. The private sector is essential to national growth, and this system provides a fair and efficient mechanism for its participation in government contracts,” he added.

Acknowledging the contributions of international partners, Boakai extended gratitude to the World Bank and the African Development Bank (AfDB) for their support in advancing Liberia’s procurement reforms. He urged all government entities to fully adopt the system and maximize its potential in curbing financial mismanagement.
