MARGIBI COUNTY – A group of 41 aggrieved members of the Firestone Agriculture Workers Union of Liberia (FAWUL) has withdrawn its case against the union’s embattled Chairman, Rodennick Bongorlee, signaling a move toward reconciliation and unity within the institution.
The workers had earlier passed a vote of no confidence in Chairman Bongorlee and SG Bangura, accusing them of violating the union’s rules and failing to adequately represent workers’ interests. In an eight-count resolution, the group alleged that the chairman had lost his representative status in the workplace and had sided with management rather than holding the company accountable on workers’ issues.
The dispute was taken to the Ministry of Labour, where a ruling reportedly went against Bongorlee. However, the FAWUL chairman subsequently appealed the decision.
Speaking on the union’s radio station on Thursday, June 11, 2026, spokesperson for the aggrieved workers, Joe Kokollie, announced that the group had decided to drop the case and work collectively for the advancement of the union.
The conflict stemmed from recent redundancies carried out by Firestone Liberia, with many workers expressing dissatisfaction over what they viewed as the chairman’s lack of support and advocacy during the layoffs.
Despite the disagreement, both sides are now expected to focus on strengthening unity within FAWUL.
