Ambassador-designate Lewis Brown, poised to lead Liberia’s Permanent Mission to the United Nations in New York, has pledged to uphold and enhance Liberia’s global diplomatic standing.
During his confirmation hearing, Brown emphasized his commitment to representing Liberia with honour, dedication, and distinction while ensuring that the nation remains a key player in international diplomacy.
Highlighting Liberia’s status as a founding member of the United Nations, Ambassador-designate Brown noted the nation’s historical contributions to global diplomacy. “Liberia has earned global recognition due to its foreign policy. We have added value to international diplomacy and must continue this path,” he stated.
Brown stressed that Liberia’s legacy in global leadership must be preserved and expanded. He pledged to reposition Liberia as a leader in international affairs, ensuring that the nation transitions from mere spectators to active participants in global development.
Ambassador-designate Brown assured the Senate of his commitment to serving all Liberians, regardless of their political affiliations. He described his role as a unifying force in diplomacy, focused on ensuring Liberia’s active engagement in shaping global policies.
“This is not just about what Liberia has accomplished in the past; it is about the responsibilities we carry today and for the future,” Brown remarked. He called for Liberia to reclaim its rightful place at the decision-making table, emphasizing the importance of proactive engagement in international affairs.
Brown outlined key priorities for his tenure, including reclaiming Liberia’s leadership by repositioning the country as a leading voice in global and regional diplomacy. He promised to strengthen diplomatic ties, working collaboratively with international partners to address global challenges while advancing Liberia’s interests.
According to him, ensuring preparedness by advocating for Liberia to remain ready and capable of meeting the demands of global leadership will be a priority.
Fostering Unity: President Joseph Boakai’s leadership encouraged a bipartisan approach to diplomacy. He stressed, “We must not let ourselves be found unready or unable to lead in global affairs.”
Brown expressed confidence in Liberia’s capacity to overcome economic and structural challenges while maintaining its position in international leadership. “Liberia has never left the space of international leadership and will continue to contribute to regional, continental, and global affairs,” he affirmed.
The Ambassador-Designate also acknowledged President Boakai’s and the Senate’s support in advancing Liberia’s diplomatic vision. “Together, we can write another great chapter in Liberia’s history of diplomacy,” he said.
Brown urged the Senate to trust in his ability to uphold Liberia’s reputation in international diplomacy. “Liberia’s astuteness in diplomacy will not be ruined. With your support, I will dutifully meet the challenges of this moment and answer the call to serve,” he pledged.
As Liberia continues to navigate complex global dynamics, Brown’s vision seeks to ensure that the nation not only retains its historical relevance but also forges a future of dynamic global leadership.
