A young Liberian agriculture student at Bong County University (BCU), Josiah Pailay, is calling for more practical approach to enhancing agricultural productivity and food security beyond theoritical knowlege.
Pailay has called on the university administration to consider introducing a six-month practical internship program for agriculture students, particularly those in their final year.
Student Pailay, who is studying Agriculture at BCU, said the proposed internship would provide students with valuable exposure to modern and mechanized farming practices while they complete their academic programs.
According to him, placing students at, with, and among experienced farmers, agricultural research institutions, agribusinesses, farms, and other agroeconomic enterprises would help bridge the gap between classroom theory and practical farming across Liberia.
Pailay is also a graduate of the Arava International Center for Agricultural Training (AICAT) in Israel, where he received practical exposure to modern agricultural production and farming technologies.
