NIMBA COUNTY – The Nimba County Rubber Brokers and Farmers Union has announced plans to file a lawsuit against the Government of Liberia and stage a nationwide protest over Executive Order No. 156, recently issued by President Joseph Nyuma Boakai, Sr.
Speaking to Variety News on Friday, the union’s chairman, Saye Kaye, disclosed that representatives of rubber brokers and farmers from across Liberia recently met in Gbarnga, Bong County, where they resolved to challenge the executive order through the courts and organize a nationwide demonstration.
According to Chairman Kaye, the union believes Executive Order No. 156 unfairly affects the livelihoods of thousands of rubber farmers and brokers across the country.
Kaye alleged that the order was masterminded by Agriculture Minister Dr. J. Alexander Nuetah, whom he accused of acting in the interest of Firestone and JETI. He, however, did not provide evidence to support the allegations.
On June 26, 2026, President Boakai issued Executive Order No. 156, which prohibits the export of unprocessed rubber from Liberia. The government has indicated that the measure is intended to encourage local processing and add value to the country’s rubber industry.
However, the Nimba County Rubber Brokers and Farmers Union says it has no intention of complying with the order and is calling on its members across the country to resist its implementation pending the outcome of the planned legal challenge.
Government officials, including the Ministry of Agriculture, had not publicly responded to the union’s allegations at the time of publication.
