Boakai Scores 4% after one year, NAYMOTE Releases 2024 Performance Report

Monrovia – A new report assessing the first year of President Joseph Nyuma Boakai’s administration presents a mixed record of progress and delays, according to Naymote Partners for Democracy and Development. The highly anticipated One Year Performance Report, covering January to December 2024, evaluates the government’s implementation of promises made by the Unity Party-led administration.

The findings show that out of 126 commitments made by President Boakai, only five—just 4%—have been fully completed. Meanwhile, 80 promises, representing 64%, remain in progress, signaling some movement in policy execution. However, concerns persist as nearly 17.5% of the pledges have yet to be initiated, while an additional 15% remain unrated, raising questions about transparency and the pace of implementation.

Despite the shortcomings, the report highlights significant strides in youth empowerment, infrastructure, agriculture, and governance. These sectors have seen notable efforts, but the administration has struggled to advance crucial reforms in education, anti-corruption, and transparency, sparking concerns about the sustainability of long-term development.

Naymote’s assessment underscores the urgent need for greater accountability and openness in governance. It calls on Ministries, Agencies, and Commissions (MACs) to prioritize public access to government data, a vital component in fostering accountability and public trust.

Eddie D. Jarwolo, Naymote’s Executive Director, acknowledged the administration’s efforts but expressed concern over the slow implementation of key reforms. He emphasized that for Liberia to achieve sustainable development, the government must address delays in critical areas affecting citizens’ well-being.

The report’s release was supported by several international organizations, including the Embassy of Ireland in Liberia, USAID, UNDP Liberia, and UN Women Liberia, reinforcing the role of global partnerships in promoting democratic governance and development in the country.
