WASHINGTON, D.C., USA — President Joseph Nyuma Boakai, Sr. has held discussions with U.S. Senator Angela D. Alsobrooks of Maryland on strengthening economic, educational and institutional cooperation between Liberia and the United States.
The September 15 meeting focused on implementing the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) signed between Liberia and Maryland in June 2026. The agreement covers trade and investment, education, workforce development, agriculture, technology, infrastructure, tourism, public administration and cultural exchange.
President Boakai stressed the need to translate the agreement into practical programs that create jobs, improve skills and expand opportunities for Liberians.
The discussions also explored cooperation between Liberian and Maryland institutions, particularly in education, workforce training, agriculture, infrastructure and technology.
Senator Alsobrooks expressed support for the partnership and its objectives.
Alsobrooks was elected to the U.S. Senate in 2024 after serving as Prince George’s County Executive and began her Senate tenure in January 2025.
The meeting formed part of President Boakai’s ongoing engagements in Washington aimed at strengthening Liberia-U.S. relations and advancing development partnerships.
