GORR, Bearwor Administrative District, Rivercess County — The Principal of Gorr Public School, Mr. Robert K. Bolue Sr., has denied allegations that the school has been closed for nearly three years, while acknowledging interruptions in classes during the 2025/2026 academic year.
Speaking to Verity News, Principal Bolue described recent claims by Gorr Town Chief Francis Sawah and some residents as false and misleading.
According to Bolue, although the school has experienced periods of irregular classes, it has never remained closed for an entire academic year.
He said that before he became seriously ill last year, the school was operating normally under his leadership, with Ezekiel Waryonwon serving as registrar and a volunteer teacher assisting with instruction.
However, Bolue could not confirm whether classes have officially resumed for the current academic year. He said more than 100 students have reportedly registered to attend the school.
The principal acknowledged that his illness has kept him away from the area for several years. He said some parents have complained about the registrar allegedly abandoning classes, but noted that the registrar has denied the allegations whenever contacted.
Bolue also said report cards were distributed to students who successfully completed the last academic year.
Town Chief Raises Concern
The controversy follows recent statements by Gorr Town Chief Francis Sawah, who alleged that Gorr Public School has been out of operation for nearly three years.
Sawah attributed the situation partly to the prolonged absence of Principal Bolue, saying the school has been largely dependent on government-employed teacher Ezekiel Waryonwon.
He alleged that classes are often interrupted whenever the teacher leaves to attend to his farming activities.
The town chief further claimed that during the last academic year, major school activities were not properly conducted, resulting in what he described as a serious breakdown of the institution.
Sawah called on the Rivercess County School System and the Ministry of Education to urgently intervene and find an amicable solution to the situation before children in the community are deprived of their education.
Parent Calls for Government Intervention
Meanwhile, 24-year-old mother Marthaline Waryonwon said she has observed a serious decline in regular school activities at Gorr Public School.
She said there are times when classes do not take place for a week or even longer.
Although she could not confirm that the school has completely closed, Waryonwon described the current learning situation as alarming.
She is calling on the government to provide additional teachers or consider finding a replacement for the principal while he seeks medical treatment.
The conflicting accounts have prompted calls for the Rivercess County Education authorities and the Ministry of Education to assess the situation and determine the actual status of Gorr Public School.
