Bong County Allocates 40 Acres for Liberia’s First Convention Center

In a major announcement, the Government of Liberia has unveiled plans to construct the country’s first state-of-the-art convention center in Gbarnga, the capital of Bong County. This ambitious project is expected to significantly enhance the county’s infrastructure and contribute to Liberia’s overall development.

Bong County Senator Prince Moye shared that the planned convention center will not be just another conference venue but a multipurpose facility designed to host a wide range of events simultaneously. He emphasized that the project would be a key development milestone for both Bong County and Liberia as a whole.

To facilitate this endeavor, Senator Moye revealed that local authorities and community families have generously secured over 40 acres of land, which has been surveyed and submitted to the National Land Authority. The land was offered free of charge, underscoring the commitment of Bong County’s leadership and residents to the success of the initiative.

“This project is moving forward swiftly in fulfillment of the President’s promise to the people of Bong County,” Senator Moye stated. “The excitement around the convention center reflects its potential to drive economic growth and address Liberia’s infrastructural gaps.”

Once completed, the convention center is expected to serve as a significant legacy under President Joseph Boakai’s leadership. It will be a venue for national and international conferences, elevating Liberia’s role as a regional hub for major events.

Senator Moye also highlighted a recent visit to Lofa County, where he joined President Boakai in commemorating the historic annexation of Bong, Lofa, Nimba, and Grand Gedeh counties into Liberia in 1964. The Senator praised the occasion as an important milestone for promoting peace and unity in the region, calling for broader participation in such unifying events, including from opposition parties like the Congress for Democratic Change (CDC).

In addition to his support for the convention center, Senator Moye spoke about his role in passing the 2024 national budget, emphasizing its focus on addressing the needs of the Liberian people. As the Senate Chair on Ways, Means, and Finance, he assured that the budget would prioritize tangible benefits for the population, with provisions for transparency and accountability. The Senator also commended the Ministry of Agriculture for its ongoing efforts to boost food production.

Senator Moye addressed rumors surrounding a potential attempt to remove Senator Nyonblee Karngar-Lawrence as President Pro Tempore of the Senate, dismissing these claims as unfounded. He underscored the Senate’s commitment to cooperation and consensus-building, citing recent reforms under Karngar-Lawrence’s leadership, such as open sessions for revenue hearings and a significant reduction in the Senate’s budget from $67 million to $52 million for 2024.

Despite the challenges, Senator Moye remains optimistic about Liberia’s development trajectory under the Unity Party-led administration. He encouraged ministries and agencies to ensure their efforts result in visible and impactful changes that benefit the Liberian people.

“We are committed to supporting the Executive in implementing the national budget in a way that meets the expectations of our citizens,” Moye concluded.
