Bong Lawmaker, James Kolleh Faces Backlashes for Abandoning Deplorable Road

Kokoyah, Bong County: Bong County District #2 Representative is said to be facing mounting of pressure from his constituents, challenging his commitment to deliver his promises.

The Lawmaker is being frowned at due to what his constituents see as a blatant disregard to their plights and needs especially on road deplorability.

This has led to residents of Kokoya sounding passionate plea, calling on the Government of Liberia through the Ministry of Public Works for the construction of their road to meet international standard.

Currently, vehicles are unable to ply the road due to the deployable condition.

Local produce aren’t easily reaching to market places, as some residents told our reporter in despair.

According to the residents, transport fare is skyrocketing adding to the already existing economic hardship the people are faced with.

Due to the current condition, pregnant women aren’t using, making access to healthcare services almost impossible.

“We are finding it very difficult. This road is a complete death trap because cars aren’t using this road anymore” the road users intoned.

“Since June of this year, four cars are stalled on the road. They can’t come out. We have to use motorbikes with a very high cost. We are suffering” the Kokoya road inhabitants added.

“MNG Gold is using the road, others are also using this same road, but it’s very bad. Not a single day a plan has been made on when and how the rehabilitation will start. They are just mining their gold” the Kokoyah road residents told our reporter.

The Kokoyah road connects Bong County to Grand Bassa, River Cess, Grand Gedeh and Nimba Counties.

The road also has links to Montserrado County and neighboring Republic of Guinea.

The concern citizens explained that politicians only use the road during election periods, leaving them with empty promises.

Currently, the government of President Joseph Nyumah Boakai is yet to outline any definite plan for major roads rehabilitation or construction in the North Central region.

This major road linking the counties is not alone, as other major corridors are facing similar problems.

Apart from the famous Kokoyah Road, other streets and community roads in Gbarnga are becoming increasingly inaccessible as a result of lack of rehabilitation.

Motorcycles are often seen bumping up and down in pop holes in pursue of reaching their respective destinations.

Communities affected by this include Frank Joe, Chief Compound, Sugar Hill community, VI community, Far East, Bassa Community, LPMC road, amongst others.

What remains frustrating is the availability of equipment which has been broken down for long period without maintenance services.

During Bong just ended County Council Sitting, twenty five thousand United State expected to be borrowed was allocated to repair earth moving. This amount, if used appropriately, will see a significant impact for the people in that part of Liberia.

Lawmaker’s silence

Up to present time, there has been no intervention by the district representative-James M. Kolleh.

After repeated messages sent to inquire whether he’s contemplating on engaging the executive on the situation, the Representative has been able to respond.

Many residents see the lawmaker’s silence and abandonment as a blatant attempt to ignore their developmental concern in the district.

He was previously elected during the 2021 by-election in Bong County.

Representative James Kolleh is still facing a backlash for abandoning a greater portion of the district including Gbanshea, Seanshue and Montah.

Meanwhile, the lawmaker has gotten little attraction from Yandiwoan- his home clan and one of four clans constituting electoral district #2 in Bong County.
