Bong County Senator Denies Plotting Speaker Koffa’s Removal

Amid widespread allegations about his involvement in ousting House Speaker Cllr. J. Fonati Koffa to avoid an audit, Bong County Senator Hon. Prince K. Moye has cleared the airwaves, distancing himself from such claims.

Senator Prince Moye said it is unfortunate that he is being named as a person plotting to remove the 55th Legislative Speaker to avoid an audit, as speculated.

While a power struggle continues among members of the House of Representatives, top government officials, including Senator Prince Moye, have been accused of masterminding the ongoing crises within that august body.

It is widely rumored that Vice President Jeremiah Koung, House Deputy Speaker Thomas Fallah, Bong County Senator Prince Moye, and Liberia Water and Sewer Corporation Managing Director Mo Ali, among others, are energizing the tension by allegedly dishing out money to representatives.

The money (US$15K each), as alleged, is meant to bribe various lawmakers as a conduit to inform their decision to remove Speaker Cllr. J. Fonati Koffa.

But the Bong County Senator sees this as a mere allegation intended to entrap and derail his high-earned repetition.

He believes such a claim is being backed by some forces wanting to politically make him unpopular despite the overwhelming support he continues to enjoy in Bong County.

The lawmaker, addressing a press conference in Monrovia, narrated that while it is true that, as a member of the ‘Rescue Mission,’ he fought to defeat Speaker Koffa during the House Speakership election, which did not materialize, it is prudent to uphold democratic outcomes.

‘Yes, we fought to defeat Speaker Koffa, but it did not happen, and the will of the majority must be upheld’’, Senator Prince Moye indicated.

To the issue of wanting to remove the speaker to avoid an audit expected to affect his stewardship as Deputy Speaker and Co-Chair on Ways, Means, and Finance at the House of Representatives, the Senator boldly refuted the claim, further calling for an audit to be conducted.

He claimed that his budget while serving as Deputy Speaker under the past administration did not exceed US$1M compared to what the current Deputy Speaker receives.

Speaking to journalists at the Capital Building, the Bong County Lawmaker welcomed the audit, adding that such a process is imperative to ensure transparency and accountability.

Meanwhile, despite recommending them, Senator Prince Moye has intensified the call not to be linked to government officials who abuse opportunities to serve.

As National Campaign Chair of the ‘Rescue Mission’ during the 2023 general and presidential elections, the Senator highlighted the need to recommend individual’ appointments.

He believes government officials of this nature should be held accountable and made to take responsibility for their actions.

‘Working with people from diverse backgrounds during the election period, we needed to give those who fought for the rescue mission a space, and when they abuse it, it should not be used against me,’the senator stated.
