CARI Communication Director and Deputy Go At Loggerhead

The Head of Communications for the Central Agricultural Research Institute (CARI), Papa Morris, has rubbished a claim by his dismissed Deputy Communication Director, Obe Smith, against the Institute.

On January 7, 2025, the Administration of CARI terminated Obe Smith’s contract for administrative reasons. Among the claims outlined in Obe’s dismissal letter from the Institute were his reported failure to attend work regularly without notice and his alleged refusal to adhere to four warning letters for his absence.

Obe worked as deputy communication director at the Central Agricultural Research Institute from 2019 to his dismissal time.

Following his dismal performance, Obe Smith accused the CARI management of witch-hunting and unfair treatment, adding that he had never violated the Institute’s Policy.

“I have always adhered to the institute’s policy regarding time off, ensuring my team, the DG, and HR were aware whenever I needed to be absent,” Obe lamented in an interview with reporters.

Additionally, Obe stated that Senators Prince Kermue Moye Sr. and Johnny Kpehe masterminded his dismissal because he criticized the Unity Party government for its alleged bad governance practices.

However, in response to Obe’s claims, Mr. Morris termed the accusations against the Institute false and misleading. He added that Obe has not adhered to the Institute’s Internal policies.

Meanwhile, Senators Kpehe and Moye’s offices have rejected Obe Smith’s allegations, citing that they have never been involved in dismissing any entity employee.

Nuwoe Kellen, the Chief of Office Staff in Senator Moye’s offices, termed Obe’s claims as completely unfounded and should not be taken seriously.
