The Congress for Democratic Change–Council of Patriots (CDC-COP) has launched a scathing attack on the Boakai led Unity Party government following the second major cocaine seizure in less than six weeks, accusing the administration of presiding over a worsening drug trafficking crisis.
In a strongly worded statement, CDC-COP rejected the government’s celebration of the latest drug interception, arguing that the back-to-back seizures expose serious failures in national security rather than success.
The opposition group pointed to the June cocaine seizure valued at approximately US$19.2 million, along with another much larger shipment suspected to be cocaine intercepted yesterday, describing the incidents as clear evidence that Liberia’s borders remain vulnerable to international drug cartels.
According to CDC-COP, the repeated seizures reflect the government’s inability to secure the country’s borders, dismantle organized drug trafficking networks, and prevent alleged collusion between traffickers and state actors.
The group further criticized the Boakai administration for publicly celebrating drug interceptions while failing to provide the Liberian people with the findings of investigations, prosecutions, and accountability measures against those responsible.
CDC-COP maintained that the recurring high-profile drug seizures raise serious concerns about the government’s capacity to combat transnational organized crime and safeguard Liberia from becoming a major transit point for illicit narcotics.
