The opposition Congress for Democratic Change (CDC) has instructed former Finance and Development Planning Minister Samuel D. Tweah to resist judicial orders following a court decision overturning an earlier acquittal in the US$6.2 million corruption case.
In a press statement issued in July 2026, the CDC accused the Boakai-Koung administration of undermining judicial independence and warned against what it described as the unlawful use of excessive force.
The party claimed that any attempt by the government to interfere with the judiciary would deepen what it called an ongoing constitutional crisis.
“Any attempt by the Boakai-Koung regime to overthrow judicial independence and apply excessive force unlawfully would constitute a dangerous escalation of the current constitutional crisis,” the statement said.
The CDC further declared that it was directing Tweah “to adopt a non-compliance posture and not submit himself to any kangaroo justice.”
The statement follows a judicial ruling that reportedly overturned an earlier acquittal in the high-profile corruption case amid allegations of jury tampering.
Government officials and the Judiciary had not publicly responded to the CDC’s statement at the time of publication.
