MONROVIA – The Federation of Liberian Youth (FLY), in partnership with the Ministry of Justice, has trained 75 marketers from Montserrado and Margibi Counties as Market Peace Ambassadors to help prevent mob violence and promote peaceful conflict resolution in marketplaces.
The one-day training, held on July 17 at the Smart Liberia Event Hall, was conducted under FLY’s Market Peace Committee initiative, which seeks to address market disputes before they escalate into violence.
Speaking on behalf of the Ministry of Justice, Alternative Dispute Resolution Director Gobah A. Anderson reaffirmed the government’s commitment to supporting community-based justice initiatives, stressing the need for local mechanisms to resolve conflicts peacefully.
Facilitators, including Attorney Prince Korvah and Dr. Anthony Lombeh Hena, trained participants on the rule of law, mediation, conflict prevention, and peacebuilding, while Program Lead Patrick F. Wee outlined the responsibilities of Market Peace Ambassadors.
The training concluded with an action-planning session aimed at strengthening collaboration between Market Peace Committees, the Liberia National Police, and justice institutions.
The newly trained ambassadors were certified and tasked with promoting peaceful dispute resolution and fostering safer marketplaces in their communities.
