CENTAL Boss Urges Government to Prioritize Job Creation

By Emmanuel M. Kangar, Jr.

Monrovia — The Executive Director of the Center for Transparency and Accountability in Liberia (CENTAL), Anderson Miamen, has called on the government to intensify efforts toward creating sustainable jobs and livelihood opportunities for Liberians.

Speaking in an interview with Dakar-based West Africa Democracy Radio, Miamen stressed the need for deliberate policies targeting youth employment, noting that many young people still lack the skills and access needed to secure meaningful work.

He urged President Joseph Boakai’s administration to develop a clear and measurable job-creation roadmap, including strong monitoring mechanisms to address the country’s growing unemployment challenges.

Miamen also questioned the government’s claim of creating 70,000 jobs, stating that the figure lacks verifiable evidence from key institutions, including the Ministries of Labour, Youth and Sports, Public Works, and the Liberia Institute for Statistics and Geo-Information Services.

To address the issue, he recommended improving the business climate, reviewing tax incentives for foreign companies, strengthening public-private partnerships—particularly in agriculture and fisheries—and enforcing policies that prioritize Liberian employment.

He further emphasized transparency, accountability, and increased support for local businesses as critical to driving job creation and economic growth.
