Bong County — National Liaison between President Joseph Nyumah Boakai and Liberia’s traditional leadership, Chief William B. S. Kollie, has assured members of the Soul Winning Baptist Ministries in Liberia that they will not be intimidated, harassed, or forced to join any traditional society against their will.
Chief Kollie made the assurance on Sunday during the 114th Biannual Conference of the Soul Winning Baptist Ministries, held in Zebay Town, District One, Bong County. He attended the conference alongside Bong County Senator Prince Kermue Moye.
Speaking after being badged and declared a delegate to the conference, Chief Kollie recalled previous incidents in which some church members were allegedly intimidated and pressured by traditional leaders in District Two to join traditional societies.
He said he had previously condemned such practices and cautioned members of the traditional council against forcing individuals, particularly religious leaders, to participate in traditional activities contrary to their beliefs.
Chief Kollie assured the congregation that, in his capacity as National Liaison between the Office of the President and Liberia’s traditional leadership, he would work to ensure that no member of the traditional council intimidates or compels anyone to join a traditional association against their will.
He emphasized that individuals should be allowed to freely practice their faith and make personal decisions regarding participation in traditional societies.
The Soul Winning Baptist Ministries is known for encouraging its members to refrain from participating in traditional society activities in keeping with the church’s religious teachings and practices.
Chief Kollie’s assurance comes amid broader discussions in Liberia concerning religious freedom, traditional practices, and the need to prevent coercion in matters of personal belief and association.
