Liberia’s Minister of Commerce and Industry, Amin Modad, provided an update on the Ministry’s work since 2024, acknowledging challenges in effectively communicating its progress to the public.
During the Ministry of Information’s regular press briefing, the minister noted that one of the Ministry’s key weaknesses has been its failure to properly inform the public about its efforts, which has led to a lack of awareness regarding the strides made.
“We have not been communicating properly with the people,” he stated, expressing concern over the public’s limited knowledge of the Ministry’s initiatives.
Despite this, the minister outlined several developments undertaken by the Ministry to address issues “inherited” from the previous government.
Among the accomplishments mentioned were efforts to stabilize the prices of essential commodities, promote local entrepreneurship, and strengthen the regulatory framework to protect consumers.
These steps, according to the minister, are part of a broader strategy to address long-standing challenges in the country’s commerce sector.
The Minister emphasized that many of these reforms were necessary to tackle issues passed down by the previous administration, particularly concerning the economy’s regulatory environment.
He pointed to ongoing efforts to ensure a more robust and sustainable framework for economic growth.
Looking ahead, the minister reaffirmed the Ministry’s commitment to improving communication with the public and ensuring that their work is more visible and transparent in line with the ARREST Agenda.
While acknowledging that progress has been made, he emphasized the importance of keeping the public informed as the Ministry continues to work toward fostering a more stable and prosperous commercial landscape in Liberia.
