The National Labor Court for Montserrado County has issued a writ of execution against the Liberia Institute of Statistics and Geo-Information Services (LISGIS) following a prolonged legal dispute over wrongful dismissal and unfair labor practices.
The decision marks a significant victory for the institution’s former Mapping Assistants and Supervisors, who had challenged LISGIS for unpaid wages and unlawful termination.
Presiding Judge Joseph M. Kollie ordered the seizure and sale of LISGIS’s assets to satisfy a court-mandated payment of USD 513,912 and 1,000 Liberian Dollars.
The ruling comes after months of legal wrangling, during which the court found LISGIS liable for failing to meet its labor obligations.
The writ, issued on February 10, 2025, directs Acting Sheriff Toby Snoh to enforce the order by confiscating LISGIS properties, including lands, goods, and chattels.
In the event that the seized assets prove insufficient to cover the full judgment amount, the court has instructed that LISGIS’s real estate holdings be closed and liquidated to meet the financial obligation.
The ruling also extends beyond institutional assets, as the court warned that LISGIS officials, including its Executive Director, Deputy Director for Administration & Operations, and Comptroller, could face arrest if the judgment is not satisfied.
The court emphasized that these officials must either produce assets for seizure or settle the outstanding amount.
