“Day of the People,” STAND Declares Nationwide Protest

Monrovia, Liberia– The Chairman of Solidarity and Trust for a New Day (STAND) a Political Movement, Mulbah K. Morlu Jr., has officially announced July 17, 2025, as the launch date for a nationwide protest under the banner “ENOUGH IS ENOUGH!”-a call to action that he says represents the will of the Liberian people to rise against systemic failure and demand sweeping reform.

Morlu, in a statement issued on Monday, April 21, 2025, declared July 17 as “The Day of the People,” marking the beginning of what he described as a peaceful, nonviolent resistance aimed at confronting what he called the growing “tyranny and betrayal” of the current government under President Joseph Boakai.

STAND Chairman further that their gathering will be more than a protest, noting that it marks the beginning of a peaceful people’s resistance for comprehensive reform.

“This is more than a protest—it is the beginning of a peaceful people’s resistance for comprehensive reform,” Morlu wrote. “The era of silence is over.”

The announcement follows a well-attended gathering at STAND’s headquarters in Congo Town, where Liberians from diverse backgrounds reportedly signed The People’s Resolution—a document calling for national resistance against what organizers claim is a regime riddled with corruption, economic failure, and rising authoritarianism.

Key Grievances Outlined by STAND
In his statement, Morlu listed a sweeping set of concerns fueling the upcoming protest, including:

Alleged authoritarian governance and executive overreach by the Boakai administration, systemic corruption at all levels of government, severe economic hardship, rising inflation, and soaring prices of basic goods, rampant unemployment and growing poverty across Liberia, and poor healthcare, with hospitals and clinics lacking essential resources.

Others include, alleged police brutality, harassment, and reports of mysterious disappearances, intimidation and illegal dismissal of civil servants, the struggle of petty traders and market vendors, facing daily abuse and extortion, and the stagnant civil service wages and lack of economic relief for struggling families among others.

Morlu accused the Boakai government of fostering a “culture of impunity” and called on Liberians across the country to mobilize, form resistance networks, and prepare to participate in a “massive and sustained” nationwide protest.

A Call to Grassroots Mobilization
STAND’s Chairman is encouraging Liberians, regardless of their political affiliations to form protest groups within their communities, schools, religious institutions, and workplaces.

“Build leadership within your space; this is a people-powered movement. The resistance belongs to all of us,” Morlu urged.

While the Boakai administration has yet to officially respond to the announcement, political analysts suggest the planned protest could be a major test of the government’s democratic maturity and capacity to manage dissent.

As the countdown to July 17 begins, the stage is set for what may become a pivotal moment in Liberia’s post-war democratic journey.

Observers are watching closely to see how citizens, security agencies, and the administration respond to growing public discontent in the coming weeks or months.
