The Liberia National Police released a statement, claiming that the LNP is ranked the 10th best police institution in Africa and the 70th globally. According to the LNP, “…This reflects steady progress in institutional reform and service delivery. The latest ranking marks a substantial improvement from the 2017/2018 WISPI assessment.”
Did the Liberia National Police (LNP) lie? This paper researched and reviewed the website and other related reports of the World Internal Security & Police Index that the LNP quoted https://ipsa-police.org/world-police-index/.

There are only two accessible reports of the World Internal Security & Police Index that are available on their website: 2016 and 2023. In 2016, Liberia ranked 22 from bottom with a score of 0.432 and 15 from bottom with a score of 0.310 in 2023; far from the 10th in Africa and the 70th globally.
This paper could not source any 2026 WISPI report on police ranking regionally and globally as the LNP claimed in its press statement. This paper made efforts to obtain the source of LNP’s latest ranking, but police spokesman Sam Collins could not be reached after Verity News made multiple attempts.
The latest Afrobarometer police ranking of African countries with the highest level of police professionalism as published in January 2024 did not also rank Liberia the 10th best police institution. With survey data covering 2021/2023, Mauritius was ranked the 10th and not Liberia. Liberia ranked 34 out of 40 African countries for police professionalism (page 8): https://www.afrobarometer.org/…/PP90-PAP6-Africans-cite…
If LNP cannot clarify this, they need to publicly withdraw their press statement and apologize for misinforming the public and releasing a fake report. Misinformation does not only erode public confidence, but it taints the overall image of the police force. There is no 2026 WISPI report that ranks LNP the “10th best police institution in Africa” as claimed. The LNP lied.
