Monrovia, Liberia – After clinching the Liberian First Division League title, FC Fassell is making bold moves to raise its continental ambitions by earmarking $250,000 for the recruitment of foreign players ahead of the Total Energies CAF Champions League and Confederation Cup.
The club plans to bring in two experienced forwards and a playmaker to reinforce its squad as it prepares for one of its most competitive seasons yet.
Club insiders say the spending is aimed at addressing a key vulnerability: over-reliance on midfield maestro Zah Krangar, who has been the team’s primary creator throughout the domestic campaign.
While FC Fassell boasts a promising pool of young Liberian talent, management believes that progressing in CAF competitions requires seasoned professionals who can deliver under pressure on big stages.
“This is about more than just making an appearance in the Champions League,” said CEO Cassell Kuoh.
“We want to compete seriously. We want to make Liberia proud. And we know that takes investment, real investment.” Kuoh confirmed that the club is targeting players with proven experience in African and European leagues who can not only boost performance but also help mentor the younger players on the squad.
The move marks a significant shift for Liberian football. Spending $250,000 on international signings is virtually unheard of in the local football scene, making FC Fassell’s ambition a bold statement.
The club is banking on the idea that a strong showing in continental competitions could open doors to international partnerships and potential player sales that recoup and surpass the initial investment.
With Liberia’s clubs historically struggling to advance in CAF tournaments, FC Fassell’s strategy could set a new standard for domestic football management.
The club’s willingness to spend big has already sent ripples through the football community, sparking conversations about what it will take for Liberian clubs to become competitive beyond local borders.
As the transfer window approaches, fans are eagerly awaiting news of the club’s final signings.
With the right mix of talent and preparation, FC Fassell hopes not only to go further than any Liberian team in recent history but also to reshape the expectations of what’s possible for Liberian football on the African stage.
