Monrovia, Liberia – May 1, 2025 – The Liberia Medical and Dental Council (LMDC), in collaboration with the Ministry of Justice -Public Safety Division, the Liberia National Police, the Montserrado County Health Team, and with support from the Liberia Drug Enforcement Agency (LDEA), has successfully apprehended Abraham Kamara, the man accused of posing as a medical doctor and performing a fatal surgery that led to the death of Madam Dorcas Vondeh.
Kamara was arrested on Tuesday, April 29, 2025, at the Masalam Medical Clinic on Kebbah Road in a coordinated operation led by Deputy Director John Bass Golokeh of Public Safety. The arrest follows weeks of collaborative efforts launched after LMDC issued a nationwide alert and manhunt on March 25, 2025.
“We are deeply saddened by the untimely passing of Madam Vondeh and extend our sincere condolences to her family and community. Her death must not be in vain,” said James-Emmanuel D. Cole, Jr., LMDC’s Public Relations Officer. “Let this stand as a firm message to all unqualified individuals posing as medical professionals, this will not be tolerated in Liberia.”
Kamara, the proprietor of the now-closed ABC Clinic in Gardnersville and ABC Annex 2 in Kakata, Margibi County, conducted a surgical procedure without medical qualifications that led to the death of 39-year-old Dorcas Vondeh on March 16, 2025.
Following the incident, LMDC swiftly shut down both ABC Clinic facilities and began working with national authorities to bring Kamara to justice. The Council lauds the public for their cooperation in providing critical information that led to Kamara’s arrest.
For his part, the Deputy Director of Public Safety extended thanks to all citizens who came forward with credible information. No one should suffer or die at the hands of unqualified individuals.
“This arrest is a victory for public safety,” said Deputy Director Golokeh. “We want to assure the Liberian people that there will be zero tolerance for quack medical practice. Anyone endangering lives through illegal operations will be held accountable to the fullest extent of the law.”
