GBARNGA, Bong County — Deputy Speaker Thomas P. Fallah has warned the ruling Unity Party against underestimating or downplaying the National Independent Movement for Boakai (NIMBO), declaring that the organization has the capacity to become a fully registered political party if its members choose to do so.
Fallah, who heads NIMBO, made the remarks during an ongoing Strategic Retreat involving the Unity Party and its affiliated political parties and alliances in Gbarnga, Bong County.
Addressing Vice President Jeremiah Koung, Unity Party officials and other members of the governing coalition, Fallah said NIMBO’s participation in the retreat should not be interpreted as a sign of weakness or dependence on the ruling party.
He stressed that NIMBO had deliberately chosen to work alongside the Unity Party and support the government of President Joseph Nyuma Boakai, rather than immediately pursuing registration as an independent political institution.
“If you have a reason, talking to the Unity Party, to see NIMBO otherwise, I would ask you colleagues to rethink,” Fallah said, emphasizing that the movement was participating in the political alliance with a clear purpose and objective.
The Deputy Speaker said NIMBO possesses the capacity to meet the constitutional and electoral requirements necessary to become a legally recognized political party in Liberia, but has voluntarily chosen to collaborate with the Unity Party.
According to him, the movement’s decision not to immediately register as a political party should not be mistaken for an inability to do so.
“NIMBO has the capacity to register at any given time to be a political institution of our country,” Fallah declared, adding that the organization could eventually stand alongside other established political parties in Liberia.
In one of his strongest remarks, Fallah suggested that NIMBO’s political strength would become more evident in the near future, warning political actors not to dismiss the movement’s influence.
“You will get to know, in the not-too-distant future,” he said, maintaining that NIMBO should be regarded as a serious political force within Liberia’s political landscape.
Despite the warning, Fallah reaffirmed NIMBO’s commitment to the Unity Party-led government and President Boakai’s development agenda.
He said members of the movement have remained supportive of the policies and programs of the current administration, although differences of opinion may sometimes arise within the governing alliance.
“We will have our disagreements, but our disagreements are always controlled and managed,” Fallah said.
He called on the Unity Party to regard NIMBO as an integral and serious partner in the governing coalition and to include the movement in major political discussions and decisions.
“We want you to see us as an integral part of whatever the ruling party is doing,” Fallah emphasized.
Fallah also described the retreat as an important opportunity for NIMBO and other political partners to strengthen their relationship with the ruling establishment, noting that the movement would make a formal presentation outlining its position, intentions and objectives during subsequent sessions.
The Deputy Speaker’s remarks highlighted growing calls for greater recognition of NIMBO within the Unity Party-led political alliance, while also sending a strong message that the movement does not intend to be treated as a minor or insignificant political partner.
The retreat is focused on strengthening collaboration between the U.P and alliance parties ahead of the 2029 elections.
