Monrovia, Liberia — Concerns are mounting in Jacob Town after residents endured four consecutive days without electricity, prompting sharp criticism from Mariama Tuzee Toure of the Presidential Youth Advisory Council.
Toure accused the Liberia Electricity Corporation of negligence and a lack of accountability, stating that the prolonged outage has placed families and livelihoods at risk.
“Four days without power in Jacob Town and still no answers from the Liberia Electricity Corporation,” she said. “This is not just negligence, it is disregard for us as people.”
Residents say the blackout has disrupted daily life, affecting small businesses, students, and household safety. According to Toure, the situation reflects a broader systemic failure in service delivery.
“In 2026, Liberians are still being forced to live in darkness like it’s normal. It is not normal. It is unacceptable,” she added. “Businesses are losing money. Students are struggling. Families are left unsafe.”
The outage has also raised questions about communication from authorities. Toure criticized what she described as a lack of transparency from LEC officials, emphasizing the need for timely updates and accountability.
“Reliable electricity is not a luxury; it is essential for safety,” she said.
As of press time, the Liberia Electricity Corporation has not publicly responded to the concerns raised. Residents continue to call for urgent action to restore power and prevent future disruptions.
