The Minister of Finance and Development Planning, Augustine Kpehe Ngafuan, has assured that all necessary preparations and strategies are in place to launch the country’s national development plan officially.
The ARREST Agenda for Inclusive Development (AAID) and County Development Agendas will be unveiled on January 15, 2025, in Buchanan, Grand Bassa County. This event marks a significant milestone in Liberia’s sustainable and inclusive growth quest.
In an exclusive interview, Minister Ngafuan emphasized that the launch is far more than a ceremonial gathering—it is a pivotal step in Liberia’s ongoing development journey. He explained that the ARREST Agenda represents an extensive and inclusive process, designed to serve as a comprehensive blueprint for the nation’s future.
“Liberia’s national development plans typically span six years, aligned with the tenure of each political regime,” Minister Ngafuan stated. “Every administration is responsible for crafting a development agenda that reflects the ruling party’s manifesto and the President’s vision for the country.”
The ARREST Agenda, he added, goes beyond being a mere technical document. It is a well-rounded plan grounded in broad national participation. “This roadmap embodies the President’s aspirations for Liberia’s future. It calls for action and highlights the critical role of collaboration—between government ministries, development partners, civil society organizations, and the Liberian people,” Minister Ngafuan explained.
The plan’s development was spearheaded by an inter-governmental technical team engaged in extensive consultations with stakeholders across Liberia. This included forming a technical committee, collecting input, drafting proposals, and undergoing a thorough validation process to ensure the plan’s inclusivity and effectiveness.
As the plan moves into its implementation phase, the AAID aims to guide Liberia toward sustainable development by fostering economic growth, reducing inequalities, and improving the well-being of its citizens. The plan focuses on building a prosperous and inclusive future while addressing systemic challenges across various sectors.
Minister Ngafuan reaffirmed his commitment to successfully executing the development plan, emphasizing the importance of collective participation. “The ARREST Agenda is a national effort. Its success depends on the active engagement of all Liberians, who must come together to realize the vision outlined in this document,” he said.
The launch event in Buchanan will bring together government officials, development partners, civil society representatives, and citizens. This gathering will serve as a moment to celebrate and commit to the new chapter in Liberia’s development. It represents a shared hope and determination as Liberia takes steps toward an inclusive and prosperous future.
