The 55th House of Representatives has cited authorities of Firestone Liberia Inc., the Ministry of Labor, and the National Bureau of Concessions to explain alleged violations of concession agreement provisions governing workers’ medical care, education, and housing benefits.
The decision followed a communication from Margibi County District Two Representative Ivar K. Jones during Tuesday’s plenary sitting on October 27, 2026, raising concerns about Firestone’s compliance with its concession agreement with the Government of Liberia.
Representative Jones asked Plenary to summon Firestone’s management, the Minister of Labor, and the Director General of the National Bureau of Concessions to account for the alleged noncompliance with provisions intended to protect eligible workers and their registered dependents.
In his communication, the lawmaker referenced Sections 9, 10.1, and 8.5 of the amended and restated concession agreement between the Government of Liberia and Firestone Liberia, ratified on March 31, 2008.
According to Jones, the agreement contains obligations relating to medical care for eligible employees and their registered dependents, education benefits, and housing for qualifying workers.
The lawmaker also raised concerns over the alleged outsourcing of certain company divisions and departments, claiming that some workers were rehired through contractors without the benefits associated with their previous employment arrangements.
He warned that such employment practices could undermine workers’ access to protections provided under the concession agreement and the national social security system.
