Nimba County — Residents of Ziah Old Town and Ziah New Town in Nimba County Electoral District #9 are calling on the national government to urgently address the deplorable conditions of roads and bridges connecting their communities to major commercial centers in Nimba and other parts of Liberia.
The residents say the poor road and bridge conditions have made transportation extremely difficult, particularly during the rainy season, leaving them struggling to transport agricultural products and access essential goods and services.
According to the residents, they have been forced to rely on their limited resources to repair damaged bridges and rehabilitate portions of the roads because of what they describe as limited government intervention.
They are appealing to lawmakers and government officials connected to Nimba County, including Labor Minister Cllr. Cooper W. Kruah, Sr., to push for concrete action to improve the roads and bridges linking Ziah Old Town, Ziah New Town and surrounding communities.
Amid growing frustration, residents have begun taking matters into their own hands by working on some of the damaged bridges, including cutting and preparing logs for construction.
The residents say they are contributing labor to the effort but need additional support, including food, drinking water, construction materials and other logistical assistance.
They have also warned that if the government fails to address the road and bridge conditions, they may reconsider their support at the polls in future elections.
