KAKATA, Margibi County – The Federation of Liberian Youth (FLY), with support from the Ministry of Justice, has established Market Peace Committees across several marketplaces in Margibi County as part of efforts to combat mob violence and promote the rule of law.
The initiative forms part of the ongoing “Justice, Not Jungle Justice” Mob Justice Engagement Campaign, which has over the past week reached marketplaces in both Montserrado and Margibi Counties.
On its latest outreach, the campaign engaged more than ten marketplaces in Kakata and surrounding communities, bringing together market leaders, independent marketers, and other local stakeholders to strengthen community-based responses to mob violence.
According to FLY, the newly established committees will serve as a vital link between marketplaces and the justice system by reporting incidents of mob violence, encouraging peaceful conflict resolution, and supporting early intervention in communities where security presence may be limited.
The awareness campaign was conducted through a collaboration between FLY’s Margibi County Chapter and the organization’s National Secretariat. Participants were educated on the dangers of mob justice and encouraged to seek lawful means of resolving disputes instead of resorting to violence.
Organizers emphasized that mob violence undermines the rule of law, threatens human dignity, and endangers lives, stressing the need for communities to embrace justice through legal institutions.
FLY reaffirmed its commitment to partnering with the Ministry of Justice and other stakeholders to build safer communities, promote accountability, and improve access to justice for all Liberians through sustained youth-led advocacy and community engagement.
