Ghana — The Government of Ghana has taken a significant step toward addressing the nation’s housing shortfall, as the Ministry of Works and Housing pushes forward with multiple large-scale developments in the Tema Acquisition Area.
During a working visit on Thursday, Sector Minister Kenneth Gilbert Adjei inspected a series of ongoing projects being undertaken by TDC Company Limited, highlighting the government’s commitment to expanding affordable housing and modern infrastructure.
Among the key projects reviewed were Phases IV and V of the Kpone (Community 26) Affordable Housing Project, which together comprise over 1,000 two-bedroom housing units. Construction on these phases began in 2025 and has reached approximately 90 percent completion, signaling imminent delivery.
The minister also toured the site for a 240-unit apartment complex under construction to replace the aging and dilapidated Kaizer Flats in Community 4. In addition, a separate development involving 60 two-bedroom apartments at Site 3 is underway, further contributing to the housing stock in the area.
Beyond residential infrastructure, the government is investing in social and commercial amenities. A 5,000-capacity event centre is currently under construction, designed to host concerts, conferences, weddings, and exhibitions. The facility will feature modern amenities aimed at boosting local economic activity and community engagement.
Officials say the combined projects are expected to significantly increase the availability of affordable housing while helping to bridge the country’s housing deficit.
The visit underscores the government’s broader strategy to improve living conditions and support urban development through sustained investment in housing and infrastructure.
