Monrovia, Liberia – The House of Representatives has achieved an important milestone in its legislative journey, with all members of the Minority Bloc, previously aligned with the pro-Koffa camp, formally rejoining the Majority Bloc headed by Speaker Richard N. Koon.
This reconciliation marks the end of a protracted division within the chamber, fostering hopes for greater collaboration and efficiency in national governance.
The announcement of the reunification was made by Representative Musa Hassan Bility, chairman of the Minority Bloc, on Tuesday, January 7, 2025. The decision to reconcile followed extensive consultations and deliberations, signaling a renewed commitment by lawmakers to prioritize national interests over political differences.
The reunification comes after months of internal disagreements, which had hampered legislative activities and caused delays in passing critical laws. With all members now unified under a single bloc, the House of Representatives is poised to function as a cohesive body, enabling smoother deliberations and the effective addressing of pressing national issues.
Representative Bility, speaking on behalf of the Minority Bloc termed the Rule of Law Caucus, stated that their decision to return to full legislative engagement was driven by a commitment to uphold the rule of law and resolve outstanding differences through dialogue.
He cited several grievances that had fueled their earlier departure, including the election of a Speaker while a sitting Speaker remained in office, the suspension of lawmakers’ salaries, the dissolution of committees, and the withholding of member benefits.
