The Minister of Justice and Attorney General, Cllr. N. Oswald Tweh, has completed a field visit to key security checkpoints along Liberia’s western corridor, reinforcing government efforts to strengthen border management, discipline, and operational efficiency within the Joint Security.
The visit on Saturday covered strategic posts including Bo Waterside and Klay, both of which serve as major entry and exit points between Liberia and neighboring countries. These sites are regarded as critical for monitoring cross-border movement and preventing illicit activities.
During engagements with officers stationed at the checkpoints, Cllr. Tweh commended their service and acknowledged the demanding nature of their duties in maintaining national security under often difficult conditions.
He urged personnel to remain vigilant and uphold professionalism in the discharge of their responsibilities, emphasizing that their conduct directly reflects the integrity of Liberia’s security institutions.
“The responsibility you carry here is not only to enforce the law but also to protect the image of the Republic,” Cllr. Tweh said during discussions with officers.
The Justice Minister reaffirmed government’s commitment to improving working conditions and strengthening operational effectiveness within the security sector, noting that discipline and morale remain central to ongoing security reforms.
He also highlighted the importance of inter-agency coordination among members of the Joint Security, particularly in managing border control operations and responding to emerging security threats.
Cllr. Tweh warned that the government would not hesitate to take disciplinary action against any officer found violating established codes of conduct or engaging in activities that undermine public trust.
“Accountability within the security system is essential to efficiency and to restoring public confidence in law enforcement institutions,” he stated.
The Attorney General further stressed that Liberia’s security strategy must align with broader national objectives, including the protection of citizens and the facilitation of legitimate cross-border trade.
He assured officers that the Ministry of Justice will continue regular field engagements to assess operational challenges and strengthen institutional support where necessary.
The visit is part of ongoing government efforts to enhance border security, improve discipline within the Joint Security, and ensure that Liberia’s entry points remain secure, professional, and effectively managed.
