Gbarpolu County Senator Amara Konneh has expressed his willingness to work with the opposition Congress for Democratic Change (CDC), describing the party as a democratic institution and promising to honor future invitations from its leadership.
A message from the senator, delivered by his Chief of Office Staff during the CDC’s 22nd anniversary celebration in Zwedru, stressed the importance of democratic engagement and political cooperation.
“As you all may be aware, the name CDC, the Congress for Democratic Change, carries the word ‘Democratic,’ and the ‘D’ stands for democracy,” the statement said. “As a party that upholds that virtue and as a political institution, we are willing and open to work with you.”
Konneh, who was unable to attend the celebration, thanked the CDC leadership for the invitation and assured the party that he would continue to respond to its engagements.
“I will honor every invitation extended to me by the CDC whenever I am called upon,” the statement added.
His message was warmly received by party supporters gathered for the anniversary, which attracted former President George Weah, opposition leaders and hundreds of CDC members from across the country.
Although Konneh stopped short of announcing any formal political alliance, his remarks were seen as an expression of goodwill toward the former ruling party at a time when discussions about greater opposition cooperation were gaining momentum ahead of the 2029 elections.
The CDC anniversary also served as a platform for several opposition leaders to call for closer collaboration in addressing Liberia’s political and economic challenges.
