LDEA Boss Recuses Himself Amid Ongoing Investigation

MONROVIA, Liberia — Officer-in-Charge of the Liberia Drug Enforcement Agency (LDEA), Fitzgerald T. M. Biago, has temporarily recused himself from his duties amid an ongoing investigation into an allegation concerning him.

Biago said he requested the recusal to protect the integrity of the investigation, prevent any perception of interference, and preserve public confidence in the LDEA.

He categorically denied receiving any vehicle, gift, or other benefit from a drug trafficker or anyone acting on behalf of a drug-trafficking organization.

According to Biago, his decision should not be interpreted as an admission of wrongdoing but as an act of institutional responsibility.

He pledged to fully cooperate with the investigation, expressing confidence that an impartial, transparent, and evidence-based process would establish the truth.

“The institution must always remain greater than the individual,” Biago stated.
