LEC Announces 10-Hour Power Outage for Maintenance at Mount Coffee Substation

Monrovia, Liberia — The Liberia Electricity Corporation (LEC) has announced a scheduled, comprehensive power outage on Sunday, as part of critical maintenance and repair works at the Mount Coffee Substation.

According to LEC management, the planned exercise is in line with the corporation’s operational readiness strategy ahead of the 2026 rainy season and the anticipated peak in energy demand. The maintenance will involve annual servicing and hotspot repairs at the substation, a key facility in Liberia’s power distribution network.

The outage is scheduled to take place on Sunday, April 26, 2026, from 8am to 6pm During this period, there will be a complete shutdown of the Mount Coffee Substation, affecting both imported electricity and power generated from the Mount Coffee hydropower plant. Consequently, several parts of the network are expected to experience temporary service disruptions.

LEC emphasized that the intervention is essential to strengthening system reliability and ensuring consistent electricity supply across its service areas. The corporation assured customers that its technical teams will carry out the exercise with a high level of professionalism and efficiency to restore power within the scheduled timeframe.

Customers have been advised to make necessary preparations ahead of the outage, including switching off sensitive electrical appliances to prevent damage when power is restored. LEC also urged the public to follow its official communication channels for updates and restoration notices.

While expressing regret for the inconvenience caused, LEC thanked its customers for their patience and cooperation as the company works to improve electricity service delivery nationwide.
