Margibi County — A well-known critic of Representative Ivar Jones, Robert Okai, was arrested on Sunday shortly after attending church service in Unification City, raising fresh concerns about alleged attempts to suppress dissent in District #2.
Okai was taken into custody by police immediately following service at the Winner Chapter Church. According to his account, the arrest was carried out under the directive of the lawmaker he has openly criticized.
Speaking to Verity News, Okai said he was apprehended by the police commander assigned at the Roberts International Airport (RIA) detachment. He is currently being held at the RIA Police Station, though the exact charges against him remain unclear.
This is not the first confrontation between Okai and individuals linked to the lawmaker. Months earlier, Okai alleged he was physically assaulted in Charlesville by supporters believed to be loyal to Representative Jones.
Attempts by Verity News to contact Representative Jones for comment were unsuccessful, as calls and messages sent via WhatsApp went unanswered.
The incident has drawn reactions from several stakeholders, who expressed concern that the arrest may be politically motivated. Some observers told Verity News that such actions could be intended to silence critical voices within the district.
Adding to the controversy, minutes after Okai’s arrest, a political advisor to Representative Jones, George Wleh posted a message on Facebook stating: “As long as we live in District #2… things will not be as usual!!! Watch out.”
The statement has fueled speculation about the motives behind Okai’s detention, with many now awaiting official clarification from authorities regarding the charges and circumstances surrounding the arrest.
As the situation unfolds, attention remains fixed on the RIA Police Detachment, where Okai is being held pending further developments.
