Following a competitive election process, Yates has been elected as an Alternate Board member for the Anglophone and Lusophone Africa constituency on the EITI International Board.
In line with EITI Board election protocols, each constituency must have a principal and alternate board member duly elected by the countries that make up the constituency.
Three countries contested the two positions. Zambia, Liberia, and Nigeria contested the elections for the two seats. After the voting, Zambia and Liberia were elected, beating Nigeria.
Countries making up Anglophone and Lusophone Africa are Liberia, Ghana, Nigeria, Sierra Leone, Zambia, Angola, Ethiopia, Malawi, Mozambique, Sao Tome & Principe, Tanzania, and Uganda.
Following his election, the Members’ meeting, made up of all 56 countries implementing the EITI, approved Yates elections to the Board on Tuesday and to serve on the Validation Committee of the EITI International Board.
