Liberia — Liberia has officially launched its participation in the Guizhou Village Super League Friendly Matches, marking a milestone in the country’s efforts to expand international opportunities for young athletes while strengthening diplomatic and cultural ties with China.

The launch ceremony, held Friday at the Chinese Embassy near Monrovia, brought together senior government officials, sports authorities, and members of the diplomatic community. Speakers at the event highlighted the growing importance of sports as a tool for youth empowerment and global engagement.

China’s Ambassador to Liberia, Yin Chengwu, described the initiative as a reflection of the deepening partnership between Liberia and China. He emphasized that the program extends beyond competition, aiming to promote cultural exchange and foster stronger people-to-people connections.
“This platform demonstrates how sports can bridge nations and create lasting friendships,” Ambassador Yin said.

Liberia’s Minister of Youth and Sports, Cornelia Kruah, welcomed the initiative as a transformative opportunity for young athletes. She noted that exposure to international competition is critical in developing discipline, confidence, and a competitive edge among emerging talents.

Assistant Coach Samir Kamara expressed confidence in the team’s readiness, stating that players are well-prepared to represent Liberia with pride on the international stage.

Also addressing the gathering, Minister of State for Presidential Affairs, Samuel A. Stevquoah, reaffirmed the government’s commitment to youth development through sports. He described the initiative as aligned with national priorities to empower young people and expand their opportunities.

The Guizhou Village Super League is a fast-growing grassroots football competition in China that blends community participation with competitive play, while encouraging cultural exchange among participating countries.
Organizers disclosed that 15 युवा athletes—one from each of Liberia’s 15 counties—will participate in the friendly matches, providing a rare international platform for grassroots players.

As Liberia prepares to compete in China, officials say the initiative represents more than just football. It is seen as a strategic investment in youth development, international exposure, and the strengthening of Liberia’s presence on the global sporting stage.
