LMDC Suspends Vacuum Therapy Operations at Fortune Skincare

Monrovia, Liberia–The Liberian Medical and Dental Council (LMDC) has ordered the immediate suspension of all vacuum therapy procedures at Fortune Skincare, citing non-compliance with national medical safety standards and regulatory protocols.
The decision, announced on April 30, 2025, follows a review of Fortune Skincare’s operational practices regarding suction-based cosmetic treatments.
Although vacuum therapy is widely considered a non-surgical aesthetic procedure, the LMDC emphasized that its safe administration requires adherence to strict clinical guidelines and professional training.

According to a statement from the LMDC, practitioners performing such procedures must be certified in cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and first aid, have thorough anatomical knowledge of the skin, fat, and muscle layers, and be proficient in proper suction settings, cup placement, and infection control.
The council also stressed the importance of screening clients for contraindications before treatment.

Liberian regulations further mandate that any medical or cosmetic equipment used in therapeutic procedures must be certified by the Liberia Medicines and Health Products Regulatory Authority (LMHRA). In addition, procedures involving potential clinical complications must be supervised by a licensed physician.
In light of the suspension, Fortune Skincare has submitted documentation to the LMDC for evaluation of its personnel’s qualifications and credentials. The clinic is reportedly cooperating fully with both the LMDC and the LMHRA as it works to bring its operations into full regulatory compliance.

“The LMDC remains committed to protecting the health and safety of the Liberian public,” the Council stated. “All cosmetic and therapeutic procedures conducted within the Republic must meet established ethical, medical, and safety standards.”
The suspension will remain in effect until Fortune Skincare meets all stipulated requirements, and regulatory bodies are satisfied that patient welfare will be upheld.
