Exciting news has emerged from the Gbelekpallah Community as local farmers celebrate a bumper rice harvest, supported by the Ministry of Agriculture’s Building Climate Resilience Project (BCRP), funded by the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD).
Empowered with access to advanced farming techniques, high-quality seeds, fertilizers, and hands-on training, farmers have significantly expanded their cultivation from just 3 hectares to an impressive 17.5 hectares.
As a result, expected yields are projected to soar between 25 to 40 metric tons, marking a transformative change for the community.
This remarkable achievement goes beyond just a successful harvest; it represents a crucial stride toward enhancing food security, stimulating the local economy, and improving living standards for families, particularly children, in the area.
Deputy Agriculture Minister for Regional Development, Research, and Extension, Hon. Moses R. Gbanyan, joined in the celebration, commending the farmers for their hard work and resilience.
He reaffirmed the Ministry’s dedication to supporting sustainable agricultural practices, aligning with Liberia’s “Liberians, Feed Yourselves” initiative under the National Agriculture Development Plan (NADP 2024-2030).
This milestone illustrates the power of innovation and support in agriculture to ignite hope and prosperity in rural communities.
As Gbelekpallah celebrates this success, there is a shared commitment to building a brighter, self-sustaining future.
