ACCRA, Ghana — Ghanaian President John Dramani Mahama has emphasized that democracy should deliver tangible improvements in citizens’ lives beyond the holding of elections.
Mahama said citizens should experience democracy not only through the ballot box but also through access to food, quality education, decent housing, healthcare and economic opportunities.
“Democracy must deliver jobs, food and healthcare, not just elections,” Mahama stated.
He added that citizens should be able to see the benefits of democratic governance through improved living conditions and greater economic opportunities.
The remarks highlight the importance of public services and economic development alongside political participation in a democratic society.
