MDR Files Complaint Against Two Candidates

The Movement for Democracy and Reconstruction (MDR) has officially lodged a complaint with the National Elections Commission (NEC) against two candidates vying for a senatorial seat in Nimba County. The MDR alleges that the candidates, Mr. Tee Wonokay-Farngalo and Madam Edith L. Gongloe-Weh, have violated electoral laws and is calling for an immediate investigation into their eligibility.

In a formal letter addressed to the NEC Chairperson, MDR expressed concerns regarding Mr. Tee Wonokay-Farngalo’s prior candidacy in Montserrado County. The party claims that Mr. Wonokay-Farngalo registered and contested in District #3, Montserrado County, during the 2023 General and Presidential Elections. If verified, this could raise legal concerns about his eligibility to contest in Nimba County’s upcoming senatorial by-election.

Additionally, MDR has raised allegations against Madam Edith L. Gongloe-Weh, stating that she may have registered through a proxy, specifically her sister. If proven, this act could constitute a serious breach of Liberia’s electoral laws.

To ensure transparency and fairness, MDR has requested the NEC to conduct a thorough review and verification process, specifically focusing on QR code records linked to the candidates’ voter registration, fingerprint verification to determine prior registrations and eligibility, and additional documentation to confirm compliance with Liberia’s electoral laws.

In its request, MDR emphasized the importance of upholding the integrity of the electoral process. The letter was signed by Michuer T.V. Deddeh, the National Vice Chair for NEC/Elections Affairs of MDR, and attested by Koakun Emmanuel Myers and Cherry Roberts.

The NEC has yet to issue an official response to the complaint. However, with the upcoming senatorial by-election in Nimba County drawing closer, this development is likely to generate significant political discourse.

The Movement for Democracy and Reconstruction remains adamant about ensuring a free and fair electoral process, calling on the NEC to act swiftly in addressing these concerns.
