Minister of Public Works Roland Layfette Giddings, alongside a team from the Ministry, conducted an inspection tour of ongoing road projects in Montserrado County on April 2, 2025. The tour covered several key roadways, including the Lakpazee Zoo Road, Chicken Soup Factory Road, Dixville Road, and Tweh Farm Junction-New Kru Town. The team also evaluated the VOA Road and a newly proposed detour designed to alleviate congestion along the Duala corridor by diverting traffic behind the Beer Factory.
During the tour, Minister Giddings expressed satisfaction with the progress of the projects, commending the contractors for their adherence to the project details. He noted that the contractors’ commitment to precision was evident in the quality of work being delivered on the ground. Giddings emphasized that this dedication to detail was a positive sign for the successful completion of the projects. “It is encouraging to see the contractors sticking to the details, and this is manifesting in the practical work,” he remarked.
The ongoing road improvements are expected to significantly improve connectivity in some of Montserrado’s most congested areas, easing traffic flows and reducing bottlenecks. In particular, the proposed detour in the Duala area aims to address long-standing traffic jams, offering relief to both residents and commuters who regularly face delays. The initiative has been welcomed by the local community, with many noting that better road infrastructure will enhance economic activities and ease daily commutes.
The Ministry of Public Works has assured the public that it will continue to monitor the progress of the projects closely and engage with contractors to ensure the timely and effective completion of the work. Minister Giddings reiterated the government’s strong commitment to infrastructure development as a key driver of economic growth and a means to improve the overall quality of life for Liberians.
With these road projects, the government aims to further address the critical issue of traffic congestion and enhance the transportation network in Montserrado County, a region home to Liberia’s capital, Monrovia, and several other bustling districts.
