Moye Takes “Listening Tour” to Fuamah, Unveils Development Plans and Immediate Aid

By Matalay S. Kollie

Bong County Senator Prince Kermue Moye Sr on Sunday extended his county-wide citizens’ engagement to Fuamah District in lower Bong, holding a series of town hall meetings across multiple communities aimed at gathering firsthand accounts of local challenges and priorities.

The outreach, which begins in March, according to Senator Moye, is intended to ensure that development initiatives are informed directly by residents rather than decided remotely. “We want to hear from the people themselves before committing resources,” he emphasized during separate engagements.

Representatives from dozens of towns and villages used the meetings to highlight pressing concerns affecting their communities. Among the most common issues raised were poor road conditions, limited access to safe drinking water, lack of electricity, unemployment among government teachers in public schools, and the need for adult literacy programs.

In his remarks, Senator Moye commended residents for their support during the 2023 elections, particularly their backing of the Joseph Boakai-led administration and the Unity Party. He urged citizens to prioritize development over political rhetoric, pointing to ongoing national and local initiatives.

Moye also highlighted his role as Chairman of the Senate Committee on Ways, Means, Finance and Budget, noting that it positions him to advocate effectively for Bong County’s development needs.

The senator used the engagements to outline several ongoing and planned projects in lower Bong, including:

Allocation of US$250,000 for rehabilitation of the Bong Mines–Sanoyea road, construction of an elementary school in Zamgbayamah with US$50,000 from the County Social Development Fund, engagement with China Union to secure scholarship opportunities funded through annual concession revenues, and continued free medical outreach programs across the district.

Beyond policy announcements, Senator Moye provided direct assistance to several communities, including Popo-ta, which benefited from 50 plastic chairs and financial support for volunteer teachers.

In Kpingba-ta, the senator donated a motorbike for the sports team coach, jerseys, a football, and support for a local tailoring group

While in Yabaya, Moye pledged 25 bags of cement for a town hall project, 10 bundles of zinc for market reconstruction, and financial aid for women’s groups and volunteer teachers.

Moving to Hindi, the Senator promised to 50 plastic chairs, five solar lights, sports equipment, and support for the Lutheran Women group

For Mawah town, where he concluded day one of the Fuamah tour, the senator pledged solar lights, sports gear for a girls’ team, financial assistance, and several pieces of lappers, while reaffirming funding for the Bong Mines–Yabaya road

The engagements drew participation from numerous towns and villages, including gatherings hosted in Check Point Town, Popa-ta, Yabaya, Hindi, and Mawah amongst others, with representatives from more than 40 communities attending various sessions.

Senator Moye received formal written requests from each community visited and assured residents he would follow up on their concerns.

The Fuamah District tour, which is expected to be clamixed on April 27, in Bong Mines, forms part of a broader county-wide initiative by the Bong County lawmaker to deepen citizen engagement and align development priorities with grassroots needs.
