Preparations for the much-anticipated Representative By-Election in Nimba County’s District #5 have officially commenced.
On Monday, June 9, the National Elections Commission (NEC) of Liberia, through its Chairperson Madam Davidetta Browne Lansanah, formally authorized the process by issuing a mandate to the Clerk of Writs, Amos W. Kamara. In response, Kamara issued the Writ of Election for the District #5 Representative By-Election.
The writ was formally received by Upper Nimba County Magistrate Milton Paye during a brief handover ceremony that marked the official launch of the electoral process.
In the same vein, the NEC announced key dates for the upcoming election. Most notably, the by-election is scheduled to be held on Tuesday, August 12, 2025.
The by-election comes as a result of the vacancy left by former District #5 Representative Samuel Kogar, who successfully contested and won a seat in the Liberian Senate. Kogar now succeeds the late Senator Prince Y. Johnson.
With election activities now underway, political parties, independent candidates, and residents of District #5 are expected to intensify preparations as the August polls draw closer.
