A new vaccine cold chain depot has been dedicated in Sanniquellie, giving Nimba County additional capacity to safely store and distribute vaccines and strengthen immunization services across the county.
The Expanded Program on Immunization (EPI) facility is designed to keep vaccines at the required temperatures from storage through distribution, helping protect their effectiveness before they reach children and other beneficiaries.
County Superintendent Kou Meapeh Gono welcomed the facility during Thursday’s dedication ceremony, thanking Health Minister Dr. Louise M. Kpoto and the Ministry of Health for supporting the project.
Gono said the depot is an important addition to Nimba’s healthcare infrastructure and could help address longstanding challenges linked to vaccine storage and distribution.
She said maintaining reliable cold chain systems is essential to ensuring vaccines remain effective and are available when needed.
The facility is expected to provide health workers with a more dependable location for storing vaccines and preparing them for distribution to health facilities and communities.
Health authorities say improved storage capacity could also make immunization activities more efficient, particularly in areas where transporting and preserving vaccines has been challenging.
The superintendent commended the Ministry of Health for working with local authorities and other stakeholders to expand health services in Nimba.
The dedication brought together health officials, local government representatives and community stakeholders in Sanniquellie.
The new depot forms part of broader efforts to strengthen Liberia’s immunization system and improve access to essential vaccines.
Gono said Nimba County will continue working with the Ministry of Health and its partners to strengthen healthcare delivery and ensure essential services reach communities.
The facility is expected to play a key role in supporting routine immunization and vaccine distribution as health authorities continue efforts to improve services across Nimba County.
