President Joseph Nyuma Boakai has appointed Hon. Nathaniel S. Toe Jr. as Superintendent of Maryland County, replacing Henry B. Cole Jr., who has served in the position since 2024.
The appointment was announced by the Executive Mansion in a statement issued on June 8, 2026, and signed by Presidential Press Secretary Kula B.N. Fofana.
Toe will take over the county’s top administrative position from Cole, who oversaw local government operations and development activities during his tenure.
A well-known political figure in Maryland County, Toe brings years of experience in public service, community leadership, and local governance. He has been involved in several development and reconciliation efforts aimed at promoting peace and unity across the county.
Over the years, he has worked with community-based reconciliation initiatives and participated in discussions linked to post-war peace-building efforts, advocating for social cohesion and community development.
During the Ebola crisis, Toe also assisted county authorities with administrative coordination and community outreach efforts, earning praise from local leaders for his contributions during a difficult period.
In recent years, many residents and supporters of the ruling Unity Party in Maryland County publicly backed his appointment, pointing to his leadership experience and understanding of the county’s challenges.
His appointment forms part of a wider reshuffle announced by President Boakai affecting several government ministries, agencies, and public institutions.
The Executive Mansion has urged all newly appointed officials to serve with integrity, professionalism, and dedication to the country’s development agenda.
A date for the official turnover ceremony and Toe’s assumption of office has not yet been announced.
